Four West Central FFA members have met their goals head on and have advanced to national competition. The Horse Evaluation CDE (Career Development Event) Team of Ashley Fritz, Steph Howey, Spencer Kurtz and Melissa VanDerWerff will compete in the National Horse Evaluation CDE in October in Indianapolis, Indiana during the 83rd National FFA Convention. The team members will judge several halter and performance classes analyzing the conformation of the animals, their movement, soundness and the ability of the riders. Members will demonstrate their ability to reason and communicate about equine science through a team problem solving activity and individually evaluating classes and justifying their selections through oral reasons. The National Horse Evaluation CDE is sponsored by Ram Trucks, Kent Feeds, Tractor Supply Company and Wahl Clipper Corporation. Members will compete for $5500 in scholarships awarded to top individuals and teams.
